The Sierra de Tormantos High Mountain Route is a long-distance mountain crossing of about 30 km connecting the villages of Piornal and Jerte along the mountain ridge that separates the Jerte Valley from the La Vera region. The route is considered difficult and usually takes around 10.5 hours to complete, with significant elevation changes along the way. The trail passes through notable locations such as Peña Negra, the highland area of La Panera, Collado de las Yeguas, and Collado de las Losas, as well as historic mountain bridges including Puente del Hornillo, Puente de Carlos V, and Puente Largo. The route traverses high mountain grasslands and open landscapes that offer wide panoramic views of the Jerte Valley and the Garganta de los Infiernos Natural Reserve. It is a demanding hike recommended for experienced mountain hikers.
