Puente de los Papúos Trail (SL-CC 34)

Description

The Papúos Bridge Route (SL-CC 34) is a low-difficulty trail totalling around 5.5 km (there and back) that winds through the Papúos Gorge, one of the most unique natural settings in the Jerte Valley. The route begins next to the tourist information office in the village of Jerte and follows a traditional path once used to transport snow from the peaks of Torreón and the high-mountain snowfields. Along the way, you’ll pass through forests of chestnut, oak, alder and ash trees, as well as small areas of farmland. The final destination is the Puente de los Papúos, an ancient bridge spanning the gorge, surrounded by waterfalls and natural pools. The area is also known for its popularity with canyoning enthusiasts, featuring jumps, natural slides and descents such as the Chorro de la Ventera, which is around 30 metres high.

General observations

Linear out-and-back trail (SL-CC 34) starting from a small bridge over the Garganta de Los Papuos, at the upper part of Jerte village, near the tourist information point. The route follows a track and footpath through alder, cherry, oak and chestnut trees with a steady climb to the final bridge. Waymarked with green and white signs. Particularly recommended in summer for swimming spots in the gorge. About 600 m above the bridge, the Garganta de Papuos canyoning route begins.
