Description

The Nogaleas Gorge Route is a circular hiking trail that explores one of the most scenic natural areas near Navaconcejo. The trail begins at the old bridge over the Jerte River and climbs along the gorge through a path equipped with steps next to several waterfalls created by the Nogaleas stream. Throughout the route hikers pass through riverside woodland and slopes covered with cherry orchards, with panoramic views of the valley and the Puerto de Tornavacas mountain pass. The trail provides a cool and shaded environment thanks to the presence of oak and chestnut trees, making it particularly pleasant during warm seasons.

Observations

General observations

Local trail SL-CC 33 (marked in white and green) following a circular route starting and ending in Navaconcejo. It climbs steeply from Puente Viejo through the Garganta de las Nogaleas gorge, passing a series of waterfalls up to 20 m high, surrounded by alders, oaks and ash trees. Midway, the route reaches the Iryda road, from which the trail can be extended. The descent follows a zigzag paved lane through cherry orchards, with scenic views over Navaconcejo and the upper Jerte Valley towards Puerto de Tornavacas.
