Description

The Convent Route (SL-CC 22) is a short circular hiking trail that begins at the bridge over the Jerte River in Cabezuela del Valle. The route passes through natural areas such as Los Callejones and climbs to a small mountain pass overlooking the valley and the Garganta de la Luz. Along the way hikers reach the Casa de Retiros San José, a former convent that gives the trail its name, and pass near the climbing area known as Las Monjas. The trail is an easy walk that combines natural scenery, local heritage and panoramic views of the valley.

General observations

SL-CC 22 trail, signposted in green and white. A circular route starting from the bridge over the River Jerte in Cabezuela del Valle, climbing 183 m through Los Callejones to a pass at 646 m, from where you can see the Garganta de la Luz. The trail crosses the gorge twice and passes by the San José Retreat Centre and the Las Monjas rock-climbing area. It can be combined with a visit to the Jewish quarter of Cabezuela del Valle and a swim in its natural pools.
