Chestnut Tree Route (SL-CC 35)

Description

The Chestnut Tree Route (SL-CC 35) is a circular hiking trail located on the slopes of the Sierra de San Bernabé near the village of Casas del Castañar in the Jerte Valley. The route runs through a forest of centuries-old chestnut and oak trees, including several specimens officially recognized as Singular Trees due to their age and natural value. The trail is approximately 4.6 km long and can usually be completed in about one and a half hours, making it suitable for most visitors and families. The path is marked with green and white trail signs and offers scenic views of the Jerte Valley and its traditional cherry orchards. Along the route, hikers can observe impressive chestnut trunks that have stood for centuries, reflecting the historical importance of chestnut forests in the local rural economy.
