Jewish Quarters Route (PR-CC 10)

Description

The Jewish Quarters Route (PR-CC 10) is a hiking trail that links the Jerte Valley with the Ambroz Valley by following historic mountain paths used since the Middle Ages. The route, about 14 km long, begins in Cabezuela del Valle and continues through mountain landscapes until reaching the village of Gargantilla. Along the way the trail climbs toward the Puerto de Honduras mountain pass, crossing forests, streams and traditional mule tracks. The route recalls the historical coexistence of Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities in the region while offering wide views of the surrounding natural landscape.

Observations

General observations

The PR-CC 10 trail, signposted in yellow and white, runs alongside the SL-CC 22 on its initial ascent through Los Callejones and follows the GR-10 for its entire length. It links Cabezuela del Valle (on the banks of the River Jerte) with Gargantilla, crossing the Puerto de Honduras (alt. 1,433 m), a gem for birdwatching and botany thanks to its birch trees. Elevation gain of 1,038 m. It retraces the ancient mule track that once saw Jewish, Arab and Christian communities living side by side between the Jerte Valley and the Ambroz Valley.
