Waterfall located along the Garganta del Risco mountain stream, which flows down from the higher slopes above Rebollar and later joins the Garganta de los Anzuelos and the Garganta de la Puria before reaching the Jerte River. The surrounding area features dense riverside vegetation with oak and chestnut trees, forming small cascades and scenic natural corners. The waterfall can be reached while following hiking routes such as the SL-CC 28 trail from Rebollar or the PR-CC 8 route linking El Torno and Rebollar. Water flow is usually strongest in spring and autumn.

How to get there

Access to the Garganta del Risco area is from Rebollar by following the local trail SL-CC 28 “Garganta la Puria,” which descends from the upper part of the village along a track through oak groves and cherry orchards until reaching a picnic area near the stream, later connecting with the local road toward El Torno. From sections of this route and from the nearby PR-CC 8 trail, which links El Torno and Rebollar, it is possible to observe the waterfalls and rapids of the Garganta del Risco, the Garganta de los Anzuelos, and the Garganta de la Puria.

Best season

Spring and autumn are the most recommended seasons to visit the Garganta del Risco area, when water flow is higher and the riverside vegetation shows its best colors. In summer, water levels may decrease and temperatures rise, while in winter it is important to consider the possibility of heavy rainfall and its impact on terrain conditions and water levels.

It is recommended to follow the route with proper hiking footwear and clothing suitable for moderate elevation trails, bringing water and some food to make use of the picnic area near the stream. Visitors should respect private properties, close gates if present, and avoid leaving any waste in the natural environment.

Warnings

Some sections of the trails near the stream have uneven ground, muddy areas, and slippery rocks, so caution is required, especially when visiting with children. During periods of heavy rain, water levels can rise quickly, so it is advisable to stay away from the edges and avoid crossing the stream at unsafe points.
