Mountain pass located at 1,274 meters above sea level between the oak and ash woodlands near Barco de Ávila and the Jerte Valley. From this point it is possible to observe the transition between alpine grasslands and the warmer landscapes of the Jerte Valley, which descends to about 345 meters above sea level. Due to its subalpine environment it is an excellent location for birdwatching throughout the year, especially during spring and autumn migrations. Species commonly observed include ortolan bunting, northern wheatear, dunnock, warblers, flycatchers, pipits and larks, as well as birds of prey such as griffon vulture, black kite, booted eagle, short-toed eagle and kestrel.

Access is by car via the N-110 road, which climbs from Jerte towards Tornavacas and continues to the summit of the pass, where there are designated stopping areas and viewpoints. It can also be reached on foot via different hiking routes that ascend from the Jerte Valley or descend from the Ávila side, although the most common access is by road.
The pass is especially interesting for birdwatching in spring and autumn, coinciding with migration periods when both forest and high-mountain species can be observed. In winter, it offers snow-covered landscapes but may present adverse conditions such as ice and snow, while in summer it is advisable to avoid the central hours of the day due to heat.

It is recommended to bring binoculars or a spotting scope for birdwatching and to stop at designated viewpoints to enjoy panoramic views over the Jerte Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges of Gredos and Candelario. Warm and windproof clothing is advisable even in summer, as temperatures at the summit can be cool, and it is important to check the weather forecast before traveling.
In winter and during adverse weather conditions, snow, ice, fog, and strong winds are common, so extra caution is required when driving and attention should be paid to possible restrictions or the need for snow chains. The road includes mountain curves and traffic, including heavy vehicles, so it is important not to stop outside designated areas or step onto the roadway when taking photographs.
