Mountain pass located in the Traslasierra Mountains, forming a natural corridor between the Salamanca plateau and the mountainous areas of Ávila to the north and Extremadura to the south. At an altitude of 1,433 meters, it is an excellent location for observing birds during both spring and autumn migrations. Birds commonly seen in this area include raptors such as the European honey buzzard, short-toed eagle and booted eagle, as well as many forest and shrubland birds including finches, tits, long-tailed tits, treecreepers, nuthatches, warblers and accentors. Swifts, house martins and swallows are also frequently observed flying above the area.

Access is via the mountain road that climbs from Cabezuela del Valle towards Hervás, known as the Puerto de Honduras road, which runs for approximately 16–17 km with numerous bends until reaching the highest point of the pass. The road is narrow and lacks a center line in many sections, so careful driving is required and stops should only be made in designated areas.
The best time for birdwatching is spring, during pre-nuptial migrations, and autumn, during post-breeding migrations, when many birds of prey and soaring species gather taking advantage of thermal currents. In summer the pass is more accessible from a weather perspective, although midday heat can be intense, while in winter snow and ice are frequent and may hinder access.

It is recommended to drive the route calmly, stopping at designated viewpoints to enjoy the landscape and, for birdwatching, to bring binoculars or a spotting scope. Visitors should check the weather forecast beforehand, carry warm clothing and sufficient water, and avoid ascending in case of snow or ice if not properly equipped or experienced.
The road includes many bends, steep gradients, and sections without guardrails, so it is essential to drive slowly, respect road signs, and avoid crossing into the opposite lane. In winter or during adverse weather conditions, snow, ice, or fog can make travel very dangerous or lead to temporary closures, so caution is required and visits should be postponed if conditions are unfavorable.
