Picota or Pillory (Las Marirrollas) The Picota or Pillory of Tornavacas, popularly known as “Las Marirrollas”, is a medieval granite column linked to the grant of the title of villa to the town in the 14th century. This type of monument symbolized the town’s own jurisdiction and was also used as a justice pillory. The structure features reliefs with sculpted faces, of which two are currently preserved. Situated at the entrance to the municipality, it has become one of the most representative heritage elements of Tornavacas.

The picota is located on the outskirts of Tornavacas, next to the N-110 national highway, at one of the entrances to the town’s urban area. From the town center you can reach it on foot in a few minutes by following the N-110 toward the southern exit, where various tourist guides indicate the location of the Picota or Marirrollas.
The monument can be visited outdoors throughout the year, with no time restrictions, so any season is suitable as long as weather conditions permit. Spring and autumn offer an especially pleasant setting due to the mild climate and the landscape of the Jerte Valley around Tornavacas.

It is recommended to respect the monument, not to climb on or sit on it, and to avoid causing damage to the stone or its immediate surroundings. It is useful to wear comfortable footwear and, on sunny days, sun protection and water, since this is an open area.
Being located next to the N-110, it is important to take extreme caution when approaching the monument, especially if crossing the road or walking on the shoulder. There are no signs of permanent security staff or protective fencing, so visitors should supervise minors and avoid risky behavior around the pillory. On rainy or icy days, nearby accessways and curbs may be slippery.
