Located in Piornal, the highest village in Extremadura, this stargazing viewpoint takes advantage of the low light pollution in the area of La Padrona. It is an installation designed for interpreting and observing the night sky. The viewpoint includes two integrated star maps: one visible during summer nights and another during autumn nights. Visitors can identify constellations and learn about the night sky in a privileged natural environment. The viewpoint is active during summer and autumn nights from 22:00 to 24:00. With this installation, Piornal has joined the regional network “Extremadura Buenas Noches”, which promotes astronomical observation in areas with high-quality dark skies.

The viewpoint is located in the La Padrona area, about 200 meters from Piornal, accessible via the road connecting the town with Garganta la Olla. From the town center, it is possible to drive close to the site and then walk a short distance to reach the stone viewpoint, or complete the entire route on foot from the village.
It is mainly designed for use during summer and autumn, when the viewpoint is activated at night, usually between 22:00 and 24:00, and weather conditions are more favorable for outdoor astronomical observation. It is advisable to check the current status of the installation and lighting schedule beforehand through the local tourist office or the “Extremadura Buenas Noches” network.
