Wetland regulated by the Plasencia Dam located in the transition zone between holm oaks, cork oaks and Pyrenean oaks in the Jerte Valley. This natural area is an important migratory corridor between the Duero plateau and northern Europe towards Extremadura, making it an excellent place for birdwatching, including black stork, herons, black kites, buzzards, short-toed eagle, osprey, cranes and geese.

Access is via rural tracks and paths leading from the N-110 road and from the surroundings of Casas del Castañar towards the reservoir tail, where the regulated Jerte River meets slopes covered with holm oaks and oak woodlands. Due to the sensitivity of the area and the presence of private land, it is advisable to seek prior information from local accommodations or tourist offices regarding the best observation points and permitted access routes.
The best time for birdwatching at the reservoir tail is between August and October, coinciding with the autumn migration period, when black storks, waders, gulls and other aquatic species gather. Spring also offers good opportunities to observe birds of prey and other species associated with aquatic and forest environments.

It is recommended to bring binoculars or a spotting scope and wear discreet clothing to minimise disturbance to wildlife, as well as to check accessibility and recommended observation points in advance. Visitors should respect the tranquillity of the area, avoid getting too close to shorelines where birds rest, and refrain from making noise or sudden movements.
Some access routes follow dirt tracks that can become muddy or waterlogged after rainfall, so appropriate footwear is recommended and caution should be taken when driving. As this is a highly sensitive wildlife area, visitors must not leave waste or engage in activities that could disturb birds, such as approaching colonies too closely or using drones.
