The Jerte Salmonid Breeding Center is a fish hatchery dedicated to the breeding and conservation of the native brown trout. The facility produces around 500,000 juvenile fish each year to restock rivers and streams across Extremadura, particularly in the Jerte Valley, La Vera, Las Hurdes, and the Ibores region. The center includes breeding ponds, artificial incubation rooms, fry tanks, and growth areas. In addition to its fish farming role, it also functions as an educational facility where visitors can learn about the trout life cycle and the importance of maintaining clean, cold river water for aquatic ecosystems. The site features interpretive panels and a self-guided walking route through the grounds.

The center is located about 2 km upstream from the village of Jerte. Access is via the Nogalón recreational area or swimming pool: from there, cross the bridge over the Jerte River and follow the concrete track that runs parallel to the river in the direction of Tornavacas. After approximately 2 km along this path, you will reach the Salmonid Breeding Center, which can also be accessed on foot or by bicycle.
The center can be visited year-round, with particular interest in winter during the trout breeding season and in spring and summer, when the landscaped surroundings and riverside path are more pleasant. It is advisable to check seasonal opening hours, as they may vary between winter and summer periods.

It is recommended to combine the visit with a walk along the riverside track from the Nogalón area, wearing comfortable footwear and, in summer, bringing sun protection and water. Although the route is easy and accessible, visitors should be cautious when walking near the ponds and water areas, avoiding running or leaning too far over the edges. During periods of heavy rain, the track may have puddles or muddy sections, so extra care is advised both on foot and when accessing by vehicle.
